Record album covers and interface design

In my web class yesterday I talked about how marketers sell by not selling--instead of saying "buy this!" they associate the product with values outside of the company's desire to generate revenue and maximize profit.

The vinyl record album--now enjoying a revival--distilled this to an art form.  Its primary market interface: the cover, which fosters an experience appealing enough to draw you into buying the music within.  In a way, you can see the album cover as a real-world predecessor to the web page, with purchase and play of the record standing in for clicks.
