Saks and cause marketing: the Style Fix is in
Style Fix has the details on a new joint promotion between Saks and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The conceit appears to be that the kids themselves designed five charity sales packages, with the assistance of Saks sales associates.
Because in the heart of every child lies the dream of deep sea fishing with chef Jean Georges Vongerichten.
Bonus question for my nonprofit law students: suppose you buy one of these overpriced tourist traps that sound like something from the Showcase Showdown on the Price is Right charitable dream deals, how much, if anything, could you deduct?

The snow globe is the only option that strikes me as being even vaguely in the "kid" idea category. I don't know any really rich kids personally.
As for the deductible amount: only that which is actually given to St Jude's can be written off, and it would be specified on any acknowledgement of the "donation." In this particular case it ranges from $1K or 33.3% of the total "donation" on the snow globe to $5K or a mere $4.3% on the $115,000 "package".
I guess if you're going to spend that kind of money on a holiday gift it probably doesn't matter how much you can write off.
