Law and meaning
I've been going through my files and just came across the following from my dissertation notes on the Yale-in-China archives. Source: a fellowship application from the mid-1950s:
I really do not want to go into business or law because I feel as if I would be accomplishing nothing constructive."
I did track down the applicant--and of course, he went on to become a lawyer.
